Ghislaine McMullin
Ghislaine McMullin is an Oxford-born cellist currently undertaking a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music, with a scholarship to study with Josephine Knight. Recently nominated for the Musicians’ Company Silver Medal, Ghislaine has also received recognition from the London Symphony Orchestra, being jointly awarded the 2010 LSO Candide Award for the most promising young string player. She has also taken part in the LSO Strings Experience Scheme, working in the LSO cello section, and is currently part of the Birmingham Royal Ballet Mentorship Scheme 2016/17.
A graduate of St John’s College, Cambridge, Ghislaine previously studied with soloist and LSO principal cello, Tim Hugh. Her playing has been broadcast on both BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Scotland, and she is part of the elite Academy Soloists string ensemble. She is the co-founder of the Behn Quartet, who are currently CAVATINA Chamber Music Fellows at the Royal Academy of Music. Recent notable concert performances include the world premiere of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ last ever work, Movement for String Quartet (2016) at both his memorial and live on BBC Radio 3 In Tune, Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time with international violinist Jack Liebeck, and Stravinsky’s Septet conducted by Oliver Knussen. She has also performed in a joint-recital with Tim Hugh in aid of the MS Society, to raise awareness of those who, like Ghislaine’s late mother, have struggled with multiple sclerosis.
She plays a c.1760 Gagliano cello, kindly lent to her by the Royal Academy of Music.
Ghislaine treedt op zondag 4 november 2018 op in de kerk van Mook met het Behn Quartet.
