Pedro Silva
Pedro Silva is a young portuguese saxophone player currently studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with the renowned Arno Bornkamp.
Prized in solo competitions both in Portugal and abroad, such as “Concurso Internacional de Terras La Salette” and “Concorso Internazionale di Musica Citta di Chieri”, and winner of “Prémio Jovens Músicos” in 2018 – the most famous classical musical competition in Portugal – in the chamber music category, Pedro presents already a big activity both solo and chamber music.
He is co-founder of Maat Saxophone Quartet, with whom already played in venues such as TivoliVredenburg, Staadsgehoorzaal Leiden, Casa da Música in Porto and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon.
Pedro did his bachelor in Aveiro University, in Portugal, with Fernando Ramos, having worked as well with renowned saxophone players as Timothy McAllister, Christian Wirth, Lars Mlekusch, Ties Mellema, among many others.
With Maat Saxophone Quartet already worked with famous string quartets, such as Quatuor Danel and Luc-Marie Aguera (former Ysaye Quartet), through the NSKA – Nederlandse Strijk Kwartet Academy.
On his master program Pedro is doing a specialization in carnatic music with Dr. Rafael Reina, applying the Carnatic techniques to the contemporary western music.
Pedro lives in Amsterdam and is planning the first CD recording with Maat Saxophone Quartet for January 2020.
