Twenty-four year-old saxophonist, Cameron Millar completed his Bachelor of Music (Hons I) in Advanced Performance in 2012 at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Australia. His Honours dissertation titled, “Sigurd M. Raschèr in Australia: A Reception History of the 1938 Tour” was the culmination of extensive research into the history and development of saxophone repertoire and performance idioms.

His passion for the tradition pioneered by Sigurd M. Raschèr lead him to relocate to The Netherlands to complete a Master of Music with Andreas Van Zoelen (tenor saxophonist of the Rascher Saxophone Quartet) at Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. These studies have also included courses with the Rascher Saxophone Quartet and private tuition with Harry White and  Carina Raschèr.

Cameron has performed all around the world, both as a soloist and as a member of chamber ensembles and orchestras.  He recently represented the Fontys Conservatory at the annual Grachtenfestival Concours (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and is currently looking forward to working with the NJO Summer Academy’s  Kurt Weill Ensemble in July.  His past projects have included performances at the XVI World Saxophone Congress (St. Andrews, Scotland), the International Society for Music Educators Conference (Thessaloniki, Greece) and the Western International Band Clinic (Seattle, USA).

As an academic, Cameron has presented at international conferences such as the Australasian Saxophone and Clarinet Conference (Sydney, Australia) and has been a full-time member of faculty in the position of Coordinator of Woodwind Studies at Sheldon College (Brisbane, Australia).

A passionate advocate for his instrument Cameron enjoys every opportunity to demonstrate the saxophone as a serious classical instrument and performs exclusively on instruments built according to the design specifications of its inventor, Adolphe Sax.
