Catarina Gomes
Catarina Gomes is a young saxophone player from Portugal currently doing her master’s
degree in the renowned class of Arno Bornkamp and Willem van Merwijk.
In 2017 she got a place on the reserve list of Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and in 2018
she won the prestigious scholarship given by the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian that
supports her studies in Amsterdam.
She’s one of the members of Maat Saxophone Quartet with whom won one of the
biggest competitions from Portugal – “Prémio Jóvens Músicos”. With them she also had
the opportunity to perform in many concert halls such as TivoliVredenburg, Casa da
Música in Porto, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon and Staadsgehoorzaal Leiden.
With her chamber music group, she worked with famous string quartets, such as Danel
Kwartet and Quatuor Danel through RABO Next Stage and Luc-Marie Aguera (former
Ysaye Quartet) through the NSKA – Nederlandse Strijk Kwartet Academy.
Catarina did her bachelor in Porto with Henk van Twillert and Fernando Ramos and
during this time she also did ERASMUS Exchange in Tilburg with Ties Mellema and Juani
Palop.
